Blues Moon Radio playlist for June 1, 2010

Tonight's three-hour Blues Moon radio show theme revolves around a couple of birthdays, plus the intense Southern summer heat. For those listeners who do not live in the Deep South and believe the calendar about when summer "technically" begins, you might think I'm about three weeks early. Trust, me... I'm not... it's h~o~t!

My favorite Bluesman of all time, Howlin' Wolf, is our historic Blues artist of the week. Chester Arthur Burnett would have been 100 on June 4th if he were still alive. I'm speechless about that, because he died long before I could see him. So, I've begun the show with songs by other artists that are in tribute to The Wolf, or just mention "Wolf" in their names.

A dear pal, Ron Levy, just celebrated his birthday and is our contemporary Blues artist of the week. His music will eLEVate your mood, I promise!

And another dear friend and fabulous Bluesman from Northern Virginia (oh yeah!) is a birthday celebrant, too... we'll feature Tom Principato's delicious guitar licks on Drivin' South.

And, if we have time, we will hear from three new CDs from Blind Pig artists: Magic Slim, Harper and John Nemeth.

Here's the planned playlist  (show starts at 6 p.m. EDT/USA) and can be streamed at http://www.wusc.sc.edu/; in Columbia SC, you can listen at 90.5 FM or HD1 Columbia:
